Having last appeared earlier this year discussing Big Trouble in Little China, it was a real thrill to reappear on The Projection Booth again this week, talking Alex Garland’s 2018 sci-fi chiller Annihilation.
I’ve gone on record before in saying how much I consider Mike White’s podcast to be the premier film podcast online; amidst a sea of great shows, Mike’s forensic examination of cult and classic movies, not to mention incredible interviews with cast and crews of said films, is unparalleled.
It was terrific going back to Annihilation. As a huge fan of Jeff Vandermeer’s chilling book of the same name, I found the Natalie Portman-starring film underwhelming on first watch but I got so much more out of it second time around, and it led to what I think is my strongest appearance on TPB so far – certainly the one where I have the best audio quality on my end I think!
A great time had talking about the film with Mike and fellow guest Chris Stachiw, a regular podcast confederate of his who will be hopefully popping up on my incoming TV podcast The Idiot Box at some point down the line. I’ll be back in the booth later this year all going to plan to talk about the 2013 adaptation of World War Z – can’t wait to revisit that and especially the book source material.
Follow the link below for the full discussion, though definitely give the movie a rewatch first, as you’ll enjoy the chat even more!
